In case anyone doesn't know, we're having a little work done on the house. By little, I mean we're getting the kitchen completed gutted and redone. The only parts of the existing kitchen that we're keeping are the walls and fridge. We're getting new cabinets, floor, and appliances. The job should take about two weeks between our two contractors.

That being said, it was a waaaay busy weekend here at the Crawford house. On Saturday, I installed one of the ceiling fans on the patio. We bought them a couple months ago and they've been staring at me every time I've walked into the garage. Stare at me no more, fans. After the fan install, I took a quick shower and got ready for a little cookout with the Rhines. They brought their Wii controllers over and we rocked out to a little Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and some Wii Sports. They left around 9 and Audra had a few drinks while watching TV and went to bed.

Today was the busy day. I installed the other ceiling fan on the patio. Now we have two fans, tunes, and a grill outside. It's man haven out back. Now all I need is a mini fridge and a cable hookup. Hmmmm. Anyway, we also had to empty the kitchen so that the guys could get to work tomorrow. We have to empty the fridge and take the doors off so that it could be moved to the dining room. After reassembling that, I drug the stove out onto the patio. So for the time being, we have two fans, tunes, a grill, and a stove. It's redneck-tastic.

We also had to clear all of the cabinets and move that gear into the dining room. After a quick trip to the store for more propane, we fired up the grill-piece and prepared a lovely dinner of kielbasa with ghetto potato salad. After a quick phone call to mom it was into the basement to make room under the kitchen so the contractor could get to the pipes and all that jazz. And of course tonight was trash night so I had to get that all together.

Now I'm finally sitting on the couch chillin'. Tomorrow is probably going to be a hectic day at work. It's the students' first day back and that usually means that we're wicked busy. Until then, it's time for a little tube and then bed.

Audra's been taking pictures of the kitchen as we go through each stage of the work. I'll try to get them posted as I transfer them from the camera.

So...I forgot I have a weblog

Sometimes I wonder why I keep this thing. I haven't updated it in such a long time. So much has happened.

Audra broke her ankle a few months ago. She's just getting to walking without a boot, and she can finally drive again. It was tough for a little while. She really couldn't do anything around the house, so I had to pick up all of our little tasks. It was frustrating sometimes and I'm sure I wasn't the most pleasant person to be around every now and again. It wasn't her fault, and I do feel bad for my 'tude during that time.

Blazing foreward to the present, work is getting crazy. The teachers are coming back to work tomorrow, so that means we have to start rocking the shirts and ties again. It's been so nice being able to wear polos all summer. Alas, all good things must come to an end.

Our workload is crazy this time of year. Basically, we have to get all the computers in the district set up for the beginning of the year. I've been working on setting up a system to restore the laptops in the event of a software problem. It took waaaaay longer to setup than I thought I would, and now I'm left in a situation where I need to get a couple hundred laptops imaged in the next few days. Hopefully we can also carry over into the school year a couple days.

On a happier note, the Ardires, Audra, and I went down to Atlantic City this past weekend. We stayed in a nice little pad in Brigintine right across the bridge from all of the casinos. Tony, in his infinite generosity, gave us each $100 with which to gamble. Of the family, I was the only one to leave with a profit. I made $5. I don't kow--A 5% return on an investment seems pretty good to me.

The reason for us going to AC was to see Jeff Dunham. The show was hilarious. It was actually a celebration of anniversaries. Tony and Patty have been married for 33 years, and Audra and I celebrated our two year anniversary on August 12. It's been a good two years. We bought a house, a couple cars, and got crazy Shelby. We also just picked up a Wii last weekend. It's pretty awesome. I'm using muscles I didn't even know I had.

On that note, it's time for a couple frames of bowling and then off to bed. Peace, fools.

Farewell, Sir

In case you didn't hear, George Carlin died yesterday from heart failure. I had a feeling that this day was coming soon. Audra and I saw him a little while ago and he was looking pretty old then. It was like he had aged 20 years in the last 5 years. At any rate, thank you George for the laughs.

That's not all he did for me, anyway. I've always loved his observational humor because it was all around us be we seldom noticed it. His keen eye for the random and his use of language pretty much changed how I saw the world. Ok, my philosophy classes had something to do with it, too.

I didn't agree with some of his political and religious views, but his control of the English language and his skeptical views pretty much have made me question everything. Thank you, George. You will be missed.
